Global TV broadcaster goes live "on air" from ComVu PocketCaster cellphone on the Iowa campaign trail

A senior reporter from a major TV news organization discovered the joy of livecasting this week as he roamed around events in Des Moines, Iowa with his ComVu PocketCaster enabled phone, interviewing residents about the candidates.

No large camera crew or extensive set up required as he walked freely through the crowds, stopping to chat, but not intimidate. The news team back at the studio monitored the livecast feeds coming in from the field, and while the news commentator chatted with the reporter, his live video was simultaneously broadcast "live on air".

Steve at FNC (Mediabistro.com) broke the news and made the post with a screen capture of the TV broadcast.

"...with the MSNBC ComVu Cam. Shuster talked on the phone with anchor Alex Witt as he transmitted live pictures back to MSNBC. The report was about Oprah Winfrey's visit to Iowa in support of Sen. Barack Obama."

PocketCaster, Nokia and MySpace Fans...Power On!

We always assumed that a wireless industry trade show (a.k.a. 3GSM World Congress) would generate the highest levels of concentrated EMF waves of anywhere on earth. We were wrong.

Try a rock concert in a stadium bowl with more than 15 separate WiFi networks, huge power generators, satellite transponders, millions of watts of strobbing lights, and some 50,000 cell phones all converging.

As they say, "the show must go on", crowded spectrum and all...and it did!

Myspace_cam_2For all of you who caught the event, I'm sure you'll agree that the MySpace LIVE! Projekt Revolution concert was not only a really, really, great entertainment experience, but clearly set the bar high for where live entertainment events are going with UGC

MySpace LIVE! fans, Kelly, Scott and the others did a great job broadcasting with PocketCaster on their N95's (no, Nokia didn't let them keep them, but they did get a lot of back stage access and many other premiums.)

BTW, our pick for "next gen" digital entertainment director of the year: Mark Scarpa, at http://www.simplynew.com. If you're looking for a proven vetern director in the entertainment industry, whose mastered the delicate art of mixing up to ten professional camera feeds with user-generated mobile video for a live event...he's the guy. Hats off to Mark, Steve and the team.

PocketCaster at Mobius 2006

The ComVu team caught a little sunshine in Phuket last month while demonstrating PocketCaster and our new Mobile Video Studio at the exclusive Mobius 2006 events. Sponsored by Microsoft, Mobius 2006 was held in two locations: Boston, Massachusetts and Phuket, Thailand.

Mobile Video Studio provides organizations with an end-to-end broadcast control solution. The breakthrough online service allows users to simultaneously monitor, manage and map multiple live streams.

ComVu's presentation demonstrated how multiple PocketCaster equipped Windows Mobile 5.0 devices could transmit their live video feed to the Mobile Video Studio, where incoming videos can all be simultaneously monitored. Any stream can dynamically be selected as the 'master broadcast' stream allowing for large-scale viewing on a website, blog, or mobile phone. The master video can also be used as a live video source to feed a traditional television broadcast.

All live streams are concurrently archived server-side by ComVu media servers and any archive may also be mixed within the master broadcast. Comprehensive meta data control, GPS indexing, multi-facetted search, one button viewer notification, security and RSS integration are all provided within the service offering.

HmmobilestudioWe are really excited about our latest product offering (in beta), and how it can empower citizen journalism with an easy-to-use broadcasting studio.

Mobile Monday Global Summit Award

As we start our blog, we of course think of all the events and announcements made prior to "blog start date" such as ...

MOBILE MONDAY (HELSINKI), GLOBAL SUMMIT 2006.
One of our hightlights this past summer was being awarded the top prize in the business-to-consumer category of the MobileMonday Global Peer Award held in Helsinki, Finland and sponsored by Nokia. ComVu was selected by the 15-country jury, out of 21 finalists from around the world, for our PocketCaster service! The 2nd annual MobileMonday Global Summit brought together mobile business leaders and over fifteen hundred participants from around the globe. The event conference sessions, focused on mobile trends and visions, profitability for businesses and fun for consumers.

The MobileMonday award was fantastic for us - attracted global recognition and awareness, and we made some really great friends in Helsinki ... and apparently no vodka was involved. Our grandest thanks to the local MobileMonday chapter for nominating us!
